Sit Down

3–4 minutes

I usually put the song that inspires my post titles at the bottom. Today I’m putting it at the top as I invite you to listen first then sit down ‘next to me’.

It’s my favourite song in my all time top 10. For a number of reasons. The words mean as much to me now as they did when it was first released.

That was back in 1990 when I was 15…and life was better than it is now.

For all the amazing advancements in technology and medicine, there’s been very expensive trade-offs hidden in the fine print.

In our March of Progress, we seem to have exchanged living in troops in the trees for colonised living like ants.

There are a lot of similarities between a hive and modern day living. Right down to both species serving a queen!

But, I don’t want to be an ant or part of any kind of ‘hive mind‘.

It’s important to think for yourself. Essential maybe as this world gets crazier by the day.

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’re already a free-thinker. Not easily fooled by tv programming or group-think.

Maybe, you’ve always felt like there was something off. Like you couldn’t quite find your place in a world that doesn’t make sense to you. I know I feel that way!

The global debt is more than $348,000,000,000,000 (that’s TRILLION – I had to look up how many zeroes!). I wonder how much more it will be at the end of these ‘military operations’ (don’t mention the W-word! It’s definitely, probably not that!).

Not only that but we already know that gas and everything else is going to get even more expensive. We’re barely scraping by as it is!

But worse than any of that is the human cost. That’s the one that keeps me awake at night.

The truth is, I could spend hours talking about how fearful I am that we’re teetering on the brink of this all….well going nuclear I suppose!

It sounds crazy but something about all of this feels almost biblical. Inevitable. It’s enough to make you despair.

But, that’s not the Citizen Jane way!

I’ve stuck on a lottery ticket and started looking at inhabitable islands for sale. Think I’m kidding? Look for yourself, there’s actually quite a lot!

I’m still very much in the ideas stage of this process but the long-term goal would be to start from scratch.

Find a better way to live on this planet.

Because, I’m tired of pretending it’s going to get better. I’m not as confident anymore that there is any hope for humanity in this current timeline.

It doesn’t look like the aliens are coming to help us so I’m making a plan B.

It’s too difficult to just start a new country nowadays so I’m looking into loopholes. Maybe something like….not a cult because they don’t tend to end well. And not a new religion (although……tax breaks!!).

Look, I don’t know, we’ll work it out as we go.

I only bought a lottery ticket today because things I’ve said in my blog posts came true…so I figured if I write about winning it….I mean obviously I’d prefer world peace but it seems even more of a long shot at this point!

I do have a plan C but that involves crowd-funding and I would need to research that a bit more. I’m not sure how I would word it for starters!

Anyway, if you don’t hear from me for a bit after today, I’ll probably be island-shopping for the new cult/commune/religion/country.

As soon as we’re settled, I’ll send you the co-ordinates. I mean, I just assumed you would know, you’re invited… 😉

Citizen Jane x ✌️

Update: I am still planning to do a post with Citizen Smurf. We’re still narrowing down topics!

Also, I’ve had to postpone the audio recordings for now due to my croaky voice! When I resume, should I do most recent posts first or start with my older posts? Please let me know what you think in the comments below 👇

  1. First off, thank you so much for recommending my blog. Makes me feel guilty for not posting more regularly.

Secondly, I feel much the same as you do. When I was a kid we had the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Cold War and atomic bomb drills. It created a lot of anxiety.

At this stage of my life (73 years old), I feel less anxiety personally, but I sympathize with the younger people who are going through this now.

I don’t have an answer. I wish I did. But I do know this. It’s not so much faith as it is “been there and done that.” We muddle through. Yes, there are losses along the way. Sometimes grave losses. But we’ve had ample opportunity to kill the world and we haven’t done that yet. I figure we won’t this time either.

    1. You’re welcome! I have been tryng to figure out for ages how to add to my recommended blogs list…finally cracked it now! I think!

Yes it’s younger people I feel sorry for too. It seems there’s always something to be frightened of. No wonder so many people suffer from anxiety.

I’m just trying to take breaks from watching the news every so often. Living every day to the fullest…as if it’s my last….just in case it is!

Thank you and have a great day

  2. I just finished reading “Attention All Shipping’, which relates Charlie Connelly’s journey round the shipping forecast areas, but of interest might be the principality of ‘Sealand’, founded and declared independent in 1967 on ‘Rough’s Tower’ a WWII fortress constructed and subsequently abandoned just a few miles off the East coast of the Thames area…..who knew? No man is an island, but it appears the self-designated Prince of Sealand has made a pretty good stab at it…

    1. Ah Tony, the fire extinguisher to my flame haha! 😉
I know that it’s a good idea in theory but….other people.
I don’t see it developing like Eden though….most of my friends are already partially feral….so more like a grown up Lord of the Flies…..

  5. For your last question, I think you should do what you feel is best. To start with any of those options is also cool with me.
