Bonkers

3–5 minutes

That last post was a lot wasn’t it?!

I don’t know how you felt reading it but, it broke my brain a bit writing it!

That was me trying to keep it concise as well! Imagine if I hadn’t used links!

I ended up doing a lot of research on something that, on the face of it, seems quite simple. Like a lot of modern day living, it’s anything but.

It’s not just the financial system I find overly complicated. There’s so much about the way we live today that seems crazy to me. Or, at the very least, makes no sense.

That’s probably why I’m always asking questions.

I can’t help that I have a sleuthy cerebrum. A busybody brain that can’t mind its own business.

It’s just the way it’s wired I guess. The problem is, the more I learn the less I understand. The questions never end….

Maybe it’s because, although my brain is over-active, it’s not very fit. That would explain why it can’t perform the required mental gymnastics to survive in the world today!

Or maybe it’s faulty. Doesn’t have the default setting of everyone else…

The one that allows us to live in a world where:

  • 1 in 8 people are obese. More than one billion people worldwide are living with obesity. This total includes nearly 880 million adults and 159 million children and adolescents. Obesity rates have more than doubled in adults since 1990 and quadrupled in children/adolescents
  • 1 in 11 people are starving. 2.3 billion people in the world face moderate or severe food insecurity, meaning they lack regular access to adequate food. Of this total, roughly 673 million people faced chronic hunger (undernourishment), while over 2.6 billion cannot afford a healthy diet
  • Nearly half the global population lives on less than $6.85 per day Approximately 9–10%, (roughly 700–800 million people) live in extreme poverty, subsisting on less than $2.15 per day
  • The number of ultra-high-net-worth individuals (over $30 million) is around 510,000, while the number of billionaires reached over 3,000, with a combined wealth exceeding $16 trillion
  • Global fertility rates have been decreasing, with many developed nations falling below replacement levels
  • Approximately 1 in 6 people worldwide (roughly 16%) experience significant loneliness. This global health crisis is most prevalent among adolescents and young adults (around 1 in 5) and in lower-income countries, contributing to around 871,000 deaths annually
  • Estimates suggest that approximately 150 million to 330 million people are homeless worldwide, representing roughly 2% of the global population. More than 20% of the world’s population—lack adequate housing and live in temporary, unsafe, or overcrowded conditions
  • Approximately $83 trillion in wealth is expected to be passed down over the next 25 years, a significant portion of which is tied to real estate

I’ll stop there! I think you get my point.

Maybe, even understand the reason I find it so hard to accept that all of these things can exist at the same time. On the same planet. That none of us actually chose to live on.

Where all humans are equal…just some a little more than others…

So why can’t I be okay with that?

Why can’t I just accept it like everyone else? Why does it feel like things could be so much better than…well this?

If only we’d all speak up. Don’t we realise we’re entitled to have our say?

Every single one of us has the same basic needs. We’re all born and die the same way.

But, not all of our lives are the same. That’s the bit I’ve always had a problem with.

I can’t pretend that life’s just not fair and that’s okay. Keep my head down and my nose to the grindstone. Distracting myself from the misery of daily life.

I want to live like an apeman not die as a boiling frog! Where the only choices are to give up and slip under the water. Or save myself by climbing over everyone else.

Does that make me crazy?

I dunno, maybe I am.

There’s probably even a name for it nowadays, like everything else.

A disorder to explain this inability I have to relinquish what little freedom I have left. My delusion that we can ever be more than a social security number.

They could probably give me a tablet for it if I wanted. There’s one for everything now!

Maybe, it would numb my brain enough to believe it’s not the world that’s bonkers. It is me after all.

Nah….I’ll just keep living my life…..there’s nothing crazy about me!

What do you think? Would you change the world if we could start again? Return it to factory settings and have a do-over. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section below 👇

  1. I just think there has to be a better way to live for all of us.

I’m tired of pretending we can vote our way out of any of this.

Am I really the crazy one for questioning why our “public servants” only ever seem to serve themselves? 🤔

It’s funny, in any other job, if you lied about everything to get employed, you’d be fired….

But what do i know? Like i said, it’s complicated!

  2. I understand why it nearly broke your brain… I’m right there with you… can barely wrap my mind around the complexity of it all.. phew food for thought.
